Young Members’ Group

The Young Members’ group of the AFGW NSW is a network of students and postgraduates from universities and institutes of higher learning around the state and from overseas. Undergraduate students are welcome to join as Associate Members until the completion of their studies.

The Young Members have met informally at lectures, exhibitions, films and socially, and are a resource to share information on scholarships, university positions and events of interest. Membership provides an opportunity to network with other graduates while also supporting educational programmes for deserving women and girls here and in third world countries.

Membership to AFGW NSW also affords women access to GWI grants and fellowships. The GWI also has an Update Newsletter to which you can easily subscribe.

The AFGW NSW’s past Young Members’ Convener, Michelle Imison has recently completed her PhD student in Public Health at the University of Sydney. She has also been a member of the GWI (the international federation of which AFGW is a part) Committee for the Bina Roy Partners in Development Programme. BRPID awards grants to National Federations and Associations within GWI for a purpose that’s been identified as being of importance for women and girls within their communities. Michelle was also the IFUW (now GWI) Convener of the Special Committee on Project Development. If you’d like to discuss membership or related GWI matters, Michelle’s email contact is:

Young Members are encouraged to develop new initiatives within AFGW NSW to promote education and educational opportunities for women and girls both here in Australia and internationally.
