BUNDANOON BRANCH DELIVERS INAUGURAL SCHOLARSHIP

The AFGW NSW Bundanoon Branch has presented the inaugural Bundanoon and Southern Villages Scholarship to Sophie Riedel.

Sophie is studying for a Bachelor of International Security Studies at Australian National University (ANU). She has a particular interest in Asia and is currently learning Chinese. Sophie used a semester break to study at Waseda University in Japan and proposes to do the same at Nankai University in China.

As described by President Christine Janssen, the scholarship was funded by a strong commitment by the branch and local community

Our major goal for 2016 was to raise funds for the inaugural Bundanoon and Southern Villages Scholarship, we hoped to raise at least $2,000. With a lot of commitment from members, we put together a sell-out Trivia night and raised well over this amount! The Scholarship will be awarded to a female applicant attending a tertiary institute who has shown academic aptitude and is in her 2nd year of study. There will also be a contribution of $500 to GWI. This amount was achieved through sponsorship by businesses and organisations in Bundanoon; a huge raffle with over 50 donated prizes; bribes and fines on the night and the silent auction of an outdoor sculpture donated by a local award winning artist.

The Bundanoon Branch invites anyone interested (including partners) to attend their local dinner meetings and/or contribute to their scholarship fund.
