The Central West Branch of AFGW held their Scholarship dinner on 18th February. The winner of the Cowra-Canowindra HSC Scholarship was Kelly Price. Kelly was presented with her certificate and $2000 Prize by Central West HSC sub-committee Co-ordinator Sue Brown.
The HSC Scholarship assists the further studies of a female student who lives and attends school in the Cowra–Canowindra area and has been accepted for university. Kelly has been accepted at CSU Bathurst into a Bachelor of Education (K-12) and will live on campus. When asked, ‘why is this scholarship important to you?’ Kelly responded: ‘I would love to win this scholarship as it represents everything I am and dream to achieve in my role as a teacher’.

Guest Speaker for the event was respected academic, Dr Rachael Diprose, a former student of St Raphael’s and Cowra High School and a graduate of the University of NSW And Oxford University. Dr DIprose inspired the students and the members and guests present with her talk entitled ‘The winding road- Cowra to Kalimantan and beyond: my journey of discover in providing aid, support poverty reduction and understanding the challenges of environmental change in developing countries’.
Dr Diprose currently teaches and lectures in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne, and in executive education programs with the Melbourne School of Government.
We thank Dr Diprose and congratulate all students on their achievements. We also congratulate Kelly for being the HSC Cowra Canowindra HSC Scholar for 2017.
